Choral Evensong

This is a service of evening prayer sung by our choir, held quarterly on the first Sunday of the month at 4:00 pm, October through May.

When you come to evensong here, it is as if you were dropping in on a conversation already in progress – a conversation between God and humanity which began long before you were born, and will go on long after you are dead. So do not be surprised or disturbed if there are some things in the conversation which you do not at once understand.  (Coventry Cathedral)

A uniquely Anglican service, Evensong combines elements of both Evening Prayer and Compline, and includes congregational hymns, choral chant, canticles, anthems, scripture readings, and prayers. We give thanks for the day that is past, acknowledge our blessings and shortcomings, ask God’s protection for the evening hours, and offer prayer for the church and the world. (Grace Cathedral)

Those who attend find it a serene service which offers time for contemplation at the end of the day, and in preparation for a new week. It is a wonderful opportunity to invite guests from other parishes or other traditions to share in the spiritual conversation at Immanuel, and the social conversation at our reception which follows the service.
